RI’s Inflation Rate in September 0.97 pct : BPS

Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Indonesia’s inflation rate in September 2008 was 0.97 percent while the figure for calendar-year ended September was 10.47 percent and the year-on-year figure 12.14 percent, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported.

BPS deputy chief for distribution and production statistics Ali Rosidi said the figures were the result of surveys in 66 cities across the country. In all of the cities there was inflation.

"The highest inflation rate, 2.80 percent, happened in Tarakan and the lowest, 0.03 percent, in Manado ," Ali said.

The inflation rate in August 2008 was 0.51 percent, the figure for the calendar year until August 9.4 percent and the year-on year figure 11.85 percent.

Inflation in August was caused by increases in the prices of fresh-water fish (0.09 percent), purebred chicken (0.05 percent), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)(0.04 percent), and tuition fees at senior high-schools (0.04 percent).(*)
