Banda Aceh, (ANTARA News) - Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) police had yet to receive a written report on the reported plan of Free Aceh Movement (GAM) founder Hassan Tiro to visit Aceh on October 11, 2008.

"We have not received any written report about Hasan Tiron`s planned visit to Aceh. We only know about it from media reports," Aceh Police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Farid Ahmad Saleh said here on Monday.

According to Farid, the Aceh Transitional Committee (KPA) which was sponsoring Hasan Tiro`s visit to the province should have coordinated it with the Aceh police.

Asked what security measures would be taken in relation with the visit, Farid said the Aceh police’s responsibility was to ensure security for all people, including foreigners.

"Requested or not requested, it is the police’s duty to ensure people’s security. But if it involves foreigners coming for a visit, the existing procedure calls for an official letter to the police," he said.

Therefore, Farid said, Aceh police had asked KPA officials to report Hasan Tiro`s planned visit so that it would be easy for them to make security arrangements.

"But so far we have yet to receive any report from KPA chairman Muzakkir Manaf," Farid said, expressing hope that Hasan Tiro`s planned visit would immediately be reported to the police.

Tiro has been living overseas for decades and is reported even to have become a citizen of a certain foreign country. (*)
