The Government Will Revitalize 200 Markets

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government will revitalize 200 village markets. "The budget used to revitalize these 200 markets is a special allocation budget of Rp100 billion," said Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu at a press conference in the Ministry of Trade working meeting in Jakarta yesterday.

The markets to be revitalized are spread throughout Indonesia.

Mari said she hoped that regional governments would help with their regional budgets.

The state budget is also allocated to revitalize bigger markets with a value of Rp30 billion.

Up until now, Mari added, the Trade Department had not planned to cooperate with the private sector to revitalize markets.

"But if there are private companies who want to revitalize markets, we will support them," she said.

But, Mari added that the companies must fulfill requirements and not create problems for already existing merchants.
