Jakarta - Financing or credit distribution by national shariah (Islamic) banks was up by 43 percent until June this year from the same period last year.

"Until June it reached Rp58 trillion or grew by 43 percent. We expect it would reach Rp97 trillion until the end of this year," the central bank`s (BI) director of shariah banking, Mulya Siregar, said at the International Indonesia Motor Show here on Thursday.

Regarding the shariah bank assets he said until June this year they reached Rp75 trillion with the target set at Rp90 trillion by the end of 2010.

The Islamic Bank is the main sponsor of the International Indonesia Motor Show this year and the bank`s involvement in the event is a breakthrough aimed at popularizing shariah banking and its programs.

For the breakthrough the Islamic Bank has recieved an award from the Marketeers magazine who considered the bank`s programs capable of promoting the image of the bank.

The award was presented by Marketeers magazine chief editor Hermawan Kartajaya to BI deputy governor Halim Alamsyah.

The chairman of the Show organizing committee, Johny Darmawan, also expressed his appreciation to the participation of shariah banks in sponsoring the show which is historic.

"This shows shariah banks` concept is different in terms of appearance and programs," he said.
