More than 22,000 visitors attended the 14th Annual Travel & Adventure Show on January 20-21, 2018 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. To promote tourism, the Indonesian Embassy took part in the show by partnering with two local tour operators, Audley Travel and Worldwide Travel, which offer travel packages to Indonesia.
During the two-day event, 1,014 visitors stopped by the embassy booth to find information about Indonesia and/or to arrange their travel plans to the country.
The embassy also invited a team of Indonesian chefs – Chef Henry Alexie Bloem, Chef Sisca Soewitomo, Chef Novia Ahmad, and Chef Yono Purnomo to do a cooking demo at the Taste of Travel Theater. They made four dishes using tempe, Indonesia’s original fermented soy product, as the main ingredient. About 100 people at the theater had the opportunity to sample tempe rendang, tempe bacem, tempe bumbu Bali, and bakmi goreng tempe.
Finally, American yoga practitioner Jessamyn Stanley shared her yoga trip experience to Indonesia with the audience on Global Beats Stage. She said that her trip to Indonesia was an “eye-opening” experience where she can see a new environment that she did not find in the United States. Jessamyn then led the audience in a yoga session at the end of her presentation.
