Duo Scuba Divers from Hawaii Dive in Wonderful Indonesia

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D.C. invites duo divers from Hawaii, to do Diving Familiarization Trip in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia on 22 to 26 October, 2018. Alicia Ward (@aliciaunderwater) and Jim Ward (@_JimWard_), duo divers from Kona, Hawaii were selected by the Embassy for having an extensive outreach promoting scuba diving as well as marine conservancy. They are also environmentalist and have backgrounds in marine biology.

The duo will promote the experience of diving in Indonesia in real time every day through their social media accounts and also their website, www.seethroughsea.com. The use of social media as a promotional tool is a strategy used by the embassy to target the larger American public, especially young people, who tend to search for information online.

“We have been consistently promoting Wonderful Indonesia, targeting those who have specific interest. After last year’s success with yoga famtrip, this year we are promoting diving sites in Indonesia”, said Budi Bowoleksono, Ambassador of Indonesia to the US.

During their visit in Indonesia, the duo will dive in seven dive spots: Sebayur, Siaba Besar, Manta Point, Batu Bolong, Mawan, Tatawa Besar, and Siaba Kecil. Labuan Bajo is renowned by experienced scuba divers as one of the top dive sites in the world. More than 1,000 species of tropical fish, 260 species of coral, and rare marine mammals such as the dugong live within Komodo National Park.

Scuba Diving tourism has an immense potential. Of all six million active scuba divers around the world, 2.7 to 3.5 million of them are active in the US. 58% of licensed scuba divers reside in the US, and this is an opportunity for Indonesian tourism. “Scuba Diving Famtrip with the influencers is an effective tool to educate a larger US public about our maritime potential, as well as the conservation efforts that we have made. It is our duty to promote a sustainable eco-tourism to make sure that we have an intact and well-connected ecosystem while having more tourists at the same time”, continued Ambassador Budi.

The Diving Fam Trip is a collaborative program with the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia. It is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s place in the map of international scuba diving destination and attract more American tourists to visit Indonesia. Dive in Wonderful Indonesia!
