Guinness World Records (GWR) Record Attempt
The world record attempt of 'the Largest Angklung Ensemble' will be overseen and supervised by an adjudicator from the Guinness World Record. Hence, the attempt will be conducted in accordance with the requirements and procedures requested by the GWR. It is going to be the first world record attempt of 'the largest angklung ensemble' conducted outside Indonesia, involving participants from different nationalities and cultures.

On Saturday, July 9 2011, starts from 5 pm, the participants will gather in an appointed location within the Washington Monument Grounds. They will be standing inside the rope fences which they can enter from several entry points. In each entry point, 2-4 volunteers will be counting the number of participants. At this point, each participant will get an angklung, a Balinese bandana (for men) and a batik scarf (for ladies) which they can keep as souvenirs. Then, the participants will be divided into several groups depending on the angklung note they have. So, it is important for each participant to know exactly the note they have on their angklung.

Before the actual record attempt, all participants, led by an angklung conductor, will be able to practice the song to make sure that when the he actual record happens, they are all ready to play it. During the actual record attempt, they will play the song for approximately 5 minutes. If the attempt succeeds, the adjudicator will announce it promptly and all participants will know that they have broken the first world record of 'the largest angklung ensemble' which will be recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Thousands of angklungs are being produced in West Java, Indonesia, especially for this event. On the record day, a famous angklung group led by Daeng Udjo will present and lead the ensemble. Daeng Udjo is known with his special technique in directing participants to play music and songs with angklung. His special technique is so unique yet easy to follow, even for people who have never seen and played angklung before. His technique is fun and full of surprises. After the world record attempt, all participants will have a chance to see the surprises by finding out other beautiful songs they can play with their angklungs.
