Jakarta - Publicly-listed telecommunication operator PT Indosat Tbk last year posted a net profit of Rp2.042 trillion, up 44.8 percent from a year earlier.

"The increase in net profit was the result of increased revenues from Indosat's three business units, namely cellular phone services, fixed data or multimedia services, and fixed telephone services," Indosat President Director Johnny Swandi Sjam said on Monday.

Corporate income in 2007 climbed 34.7 percent to Rp16.488 trillion from Rp12.239 trillion in 2006, leading to a 33 percent rise in corporate profit to Rp4.519 trillion in 2007 from Rp3.398 trillion in 2006, he said.

Johnny said income from cellular phone services in 2007 jumped 38.2 percent to Rp12.752 trillion from Rp9.227 trillion the year before.

"The surge in income from cellular phone services resulted from a 46.9 percent increase in the number of subscribers to 24.5 million in 2007 from 16.7 million at the end of 2006," he said.

Meanwhile, income from fixed data or multimedia services grew 14 percent to Rp2.168 trillion in 2007 from Rp1.902 trillion in 2006, he said.

Overall, Indosat last year managed to maintain its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) margins at Rp8.714 trillion or 57.7 percent of the corporate income or 52 percent of the total revenues, he said.

In 2007, Indosat invested Rp11.9 trillion in development of telecommunication networks across the country, of which 83.5 percent or Rp9.9 trillion was allocated to development of cellular phone networks.
