Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has yet to decide who he will appoint to replace Boediono as chief economic minister after the latter’s nomination as Bank Indonesia (BI) governor was endorsed by the House of Representatives (DPR) recently.
"Up to now, the president has not yet discussed who will replace Boediono," Minister/State Secretary Hatta Rajasa said after accompanying the president at the opening of a national legal convention here on Tuesday.
He said, meanwhile, Boediono was continuing to function as coordinating minister for economic affairs and would do so until he was installed as BI governor.
"The president will surely not let the post (of coordinating minister for economic affairs) remain vacant. But let us wait. We should not engage in speculations," the minister added.
He said the government had on April 11, 2008 received the DPR`s letter on its endorsement of Boediono`s nomination for the BI governorship.
"Preparations are now being made for his installation," Rajasa said.
The minister said BI governors were always installed by the Supreme Court chairman, not by the president.
He said based on the law, the current BI governor’s tenure would expire on May 17, 2008. "So let’s just follow the system. Even if the president signs the formal decision appointing Boediono as BI governor soon, we will still have to wait until the Supreme Court chairman swears him in."
