Government Needs Rp11.5 Trillion for School Operation Fund Program

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will need an additional fund of Rp11.55 trillion to meet its school operation fund (BOS) program as well as its free education program for elementary and secondary schools in 2008, a senior official said.

"The government’s budgetary efficiency program has caused the Ministry of National Education (Depdiknas) to face a fund shortage of Rp11.55 trillion," Secretary General of Depdiknas, Dodi Mandika, said here on Thursday.

He made the remarks in a public discussion on a 20 percent education budget organized by the reporters` forum of the Depdiknas which presented as speaker lawmaker Cyprianus Aoer and head of Jakarta’s Secondary and Higher Education Services, Margani Mustar.

Mandika said the government acknowledged funds for education were still small so that fund allocation for education this year should be managed efficiently based on priority programs.
