UK Bids for Indonesia Arms Business

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The United Kingdom has propose investment in security sector which is banned from foreign investment the Industry Department reported on Wednesday (10/3).
After a meeting with Trade and Investment delegates from UK at the Industry Department Office, Minister MS Hidayat said "they wanted to get into security and defense."
Hidayat explained the delegates led by Chief Executive Sir Andrew Cahn that the proposal was impossible to approved as forreign investment is prohibited to enter the sectors.
Arms business, Hidayat said is among sectors closed for foreign investment however the government is open for foreign investment close to security and defense namely information system and tecnology. "We advised them to collaborate with state owned enterprises."
In the occasion the delegates also extended complaints from UK business over tedious export - import mechanism at indonesian port to which Hidayat promised to discuss the matter with related trade agencies including the National Food and Drugs Agency (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan). I
