Indonesian Ambassador to the US Dr. Dino Patti Djalal met with the President of the Word Bank Group, Robert B Zoellick, at the Bank's Headquarter in Washington DC, on January 5, 2011, to discuss wide range of issues pertaining to Indonesia-World Bank cooperation. The meeting was also attended by World Bank Managing Director Sri Mulyani, Executive Director of Southeast Asia Hekinus Manao and Country Director for Indonesia, Stefan Koeberle.
Ambassador Djalal explained the current progress of the Indonesian economy, and Indonesia's role in various regional and international fora, such as ASEAN, APEC and G20. President Zoellick discussed recovery of the global economy and the Bank's readiness to strengthen and deepen collaboration with Indonesia on issues such as climate change, forestry and agriculture, public health, poverty alleviation, education, infrastructure development and strengthening public institutions, including at the local government level through various RI-World Bank cooperation programs.
Strengthened cooperation in the framework of Stolen Asset Recovery Act (StAR) Initiative was also addressed, which sought collaboration on Indonesia's efforts to fighting corruption by recovering stolen asset placed in various financial institutions abroad.
The World Bank reassured its commitment to continuously support Indonesia's development program to progress Indonesia's economy to the next level so as to avoid the middle income country trap. To this end, the Bank will continue to lend its support to Indonesia through various cooperation programs in developing sound and sustainable strategies and policy development needed for Indonesia's development.
Ambassador Djalal also commended the World Bank's endeavor in conserving endangered animals, such as Tiger, and invited President Zoellick to visit Indonesia in the near future.
