The Minister for Foreign affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia expresses deep concern over the outbreak of artillery exchanges between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Republic of Korea on the Yeonpyeong island resulting in the loss of civilian lives;

Indonesia calls on both sides to immediately cease hostilities, exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation of tension;

Indonesia also underscores the importance of the immediate resumption of the Six Party Talks in order to address all aspects relating to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
